Celebrating Diwali – the Hindu festival of light!

This week the Pre-school children have been learning all about Diwali the Hindu festival of Light.  They have made lanterns and little clay divas with a tea light in the middle which are lit to celebrate the triumph of light and to help the Goddess Lakshmi (goddess of wealth) find her way to homes.  They have also been creating Mehndi patterns which historically were used to keep people healthy and stress-free.  For lunch John cooked a delicious vegetable and chick pea curry with coriander and rice and for tea the children enjoyed home made onion bhajis, chapatis and mixed salad with mango dip.  Mahaniya’s Mummy very kindly brought in a box of chocolates to share with the children as part of the celebration!
