Outside Play

At Chrysalis we pride ourselves in our extensive outdoor area which has three separate enclosed large gardens, we emphasise that the outdoors is as much part of a child’s learning environment as the indoor environment.

Caterpillar Babies

The Caterpillar babies have their own private garden with a baby swing and age appropriate climbing equipment with astro-turf. There is also a quiet area to sit rest and have a cuddle…..

Cocoon and Butterfly Children

Our toddlers have a very large garden where they can run, jump, skip, and hide in our willow tunnel and willow structure. There is a paved area for bikes, trikes, etc and a large grassed area with slides, see-saws climbing equipment or where they can just run freely. In the warmer weather we often have ‘Chrysalis’ pic-nics and sing-a-longs where we ALL get-together.

Pre-School

The Pre-school garden has a beautiful cherry tree and is situated on our very own Telly-Tubby Hill! The children just love to climb it. The seasonal changes also bring a wealth of learning for the children.

There is a paved area which is home to our very own pirate boat! And during the summer months the Pre-school children enjoy tennis lessons in this area.

As well as lots of space to physically play the children have their very own garden where they plant seeds, bulbs, herbs and flowers and help to make them grow.

The staff plan the children’s play with a balance of adult-led and child-led activities to help children think critically and be active and creative learners. They develop greater awareness of the environment as they become totally engrossed in their play. There are opportunities for imaginative play to develop their curiosity and the children can choose to work collaboratively or independently and help them make sense of the world about them.
